| Bien, el POST de hoy es el primero de una serie de dos, y pertenece a una actividad que había mencionado que asistiría, hace un mes atrás cuando publiqué las fotos del Sanjuanazo 2010 en el microcentro. En aquella oportunidad, los Guaicurú se habían presentado para mostrar su cultura, y la gente había quedado boquiabierta. Fue una actividad desconocida para mí y para muchos, una cultura que tiene sus años y me resultó novedosa, una oportunidad para mostrar más sobre este Paraguay oculto y misterioso a veces. Viendolo todo desde un conjunto, el festejo por el aniversario de muerte de San Francisco Solano -Patrono de la 1ra. Compañía de Minas de Emboscada- se trata de dos actividades paganas culturales, ligadas con los Guaicurúes de dicha localidad: La Serenata del alba y el Guaicuru Ñemonde. Tuve la suerte y la voluntad de asistir en ambas fechas. Hoy me toca compartir lo que fue la Serenata del alba, que comenzó en la noche del 22 de Julio a partir de las 09:00, con la congregación de los pobladores y allegados a la Iglesia de Minas de Emboscada. En este viaje me acompañó mi gran amigo John. A las 02:00 AM, comenzaba la tradicional misa. A pesar que la temperatura cálida del día comenzaba a mermar, aún lindaba en lo soportable. Se había convertido en una fresca y agradable noche, razón por la que nos encontramos con un embotellamiento de aproximadamente media hora, hasta pasar el predio de la EXPO. Sin importar que hoy corría la confirmación de que se extendería una semana más la muestra anual de nuestra Industria y Agricultura, la gente no escatimaba la oportunidad de asistir una noche entre semana.

22:05 - Llegamos a la Capilla San Francisco Solano, de la primera compañía "Minas" de Emboscada, situada aproximadamente a un poco más de 40 kms de Asunción. La gente iba llegando también al predio, algunos promeseros con sus trajes, otros con la devoción en alto. La hermosa y humilde capilla de décadas de historia y tradición se prepara cada año para festejar el "paso a mejor vida" de su santo. La iluminación escueta en el patio, nos da un aire de mayor intimidad, pues el festejo de la Serenata del Alba, lo hacen los pobladores de Minas de Emboscada. El Festejo del 24 lo hacen con Embosqueños de otras compañías.
22:05 - We arrived at the Chapel of San Francisco Solano, of the first company "Minas" de Emboscada, located approximately a little over 40 km from Asuncion. Promeseros y devotos de esta celebración los hay en todas las edades. Los trajes son confeccionados meses antes, porque ellos deben extraer plumas de gallina o gallos para pegarlos en sus prendas. Otros utilizan tiras de papel. Las máscaras son opcionales pero deben ser llamativas, aunque los no se cubren el rostro utilizan gorros hechos con el mismo material que el traje. Los niños son quienes más disfrutan de las máscaras, y siempre buscan aquellas que sean pintorescas. Los mayores y aquellos que dependen del bolsillo, utilizan telas agujereadas en los ojos y nariz, además de pintadas, que puedan simular un rostro. Todo vale.
Pilgrims and devotees of this celebration there are in all ages. The costumes are made months in advance, because they must remove chicken or rooster feathers to stick onto their clothes. Some use strips of paper. Masks are optional but should be striking, but those who do not use masks, cover their faces with hats made of the same material as the suit. Children are more enjoy the masks, and always looking for those who are picturesque. The olders and those who depending on their wallets, use fabrics punched in the eyes and nose, as well as painted, which may mimic a face. Anything is valid.

En el medio del poco espacio que dispone la capilla, los Guaicurues jóvenes y los mayores hacen un baile con mucho frenesí, en el que simulan tener alas como gallinas y las agitan con fuerza. La Capilla sin embargo cada año intenta ampliar su estructura de a poco, gracias al aporte que se consigue en las misas de esta fecha especial, como en el alquiler del patio trasero para que se ubique una mini feria, que cuenta con juegos de azar, venta de comidas típicas y otros.
In the middle of the little space available in the chapel, the younger and older Guaicuru do a dance with a lot of frenzy, which simulate having chicken wings and stir vigorously. Es el mismo Cacique que se presentó en el microcentro en el Sanjuanazo 2010, el post anterior mío al que me refiero al principio.
The Chief of Guaicurú use a police hat in his wardrobe, running polkas with an harmonica under his mask, while the others pilgrims dance around him. This Chief is the same that was presented in downtown for the Sanjuanazo in 2010, a previous post that I am referring at the beginning.

22:56 - Un grupo de promeseros Guaicurús llega a la capilla y se disponen a rezar a la imagen del Santo. El silencio de los demás ocupantes de la capilla es una gran muestra de respeto.

 Algunos trajes son confeccionados con bastante humildad, porque conseguir las plumas de gallinas tiene su costo. Este señor llegó sólo al lugar con su traje sin muchas plumas pero con la gran voluntad de agradecer a su santo y festejar en esta fecha especial.  23:02 - Dos señoras encienden más velas de manera a que la llama no se apague. Las velas que están ubicadas al pie del Santo pertenecen a los promeseros que llegaron y rezaron al mismo agradeciendo por su salud, éxito y otros, tanto para ellos como los miembros de su familia. Esos son los pedidos más solicitados por los Guaicurúes. En ese momento, la temperatura afuera de la iglesia había caído estrepitosamente dejando de ser una noche cálida y agradable para convertirse en fría. 23:02 - Two women lit more candles so the flame doesn't fades out. En la oscuridad del patio la tenue luz de un foco de 40 watts provoca la creación de figuras fantasmagóricas de plumas y máscaras. Los niños acostumbrados a este festejo no tienen miedo y desde muy chicos van forjando el carácter y valor. Cualquier otro niño estaría aterrado con las máscaras y trajes que aparecen de repente desde las partes más oscuras. El niño con la tela verde me miraba fijamente, quieto, sin emitir sonido, y eso me ponía nervioso porque me recordaba al personaje imaginario de la película "El Orfanato".
In the darkness of the courtyard in the dim light of a 40-watt bulb causes the creation of ghostly figures in feathers and masks. La capacidad de la capilla es rebasada debido a la gran concurrencia de curiosos como yo, pobladores que asisten a la misa e incluso nuestros propios turistas paraguayos. La capilla intenta adecuarse a las exigencias, porque esta fiesta incrementa el número de visitantes cada año, y gracias a las donaciones que se recaudan en la misa como en estos días festivos, permiten así realizar mejoras en el lugar.
The capacity of the chapel is exceeded due to the large crowd of onlookers like myself, people who attend the Mass and even our own Paraguayans tourists. The chapel try to fit the demands, because this event increases the number of visitors each year, and thanks to the donations collected at Mass and in these holidays, allow improvements in place.
