Thousand roofs for my country (Part 3: The 1000th house)

Una semana después de mi segunda visita al Bañado Norte en las casas construidas por UTPMP, me tocaba volver a este lugar donde anteriormente ya había caminado. En mis POSTs anteriores "Siguiendo los pasos de Pa'i Oliva en el Bañado Sur" y "Con las Alas Abiertas y el corazón también", había recorrido parte del Bañado Sur, lugar donde UTPMP ahora concretaría su meta para 2010: construir la casa 1000. Lugar hermoso y de no ser por sufrir la marginalidad del pasado, hoy nos damos cuenta que el bañado y la vera del río son lugares benditos para explotar el turismo, una costanera y mejorarla urbanamente. El 19 de diciembre de 2010, con la construcción de la casa 1000, UTPMP Paraguay se situaría así con orgullo cerca de Chile y Argentina que han sobrepasado ya esa barrera anteriormente, y eso impulsa nada más a querer concretar la meta de las siguientes 1000 casas. Culmina así esta parte de mi historia en fotos, donde UTPMP hoy en día permite a 1000 familias tener la oportunidad de un nuevo comienzo.

A week after my second visit to Northern Marsh in houses built by UTPMP, I had to return to this place before that I already walked. In my previous posts "Following the footsteps of Pa'i Oliva in the Bañado Sur" and "With the Wings opened and the heart also" I had traveled part of the South Marsh, where UTPMP now materialize its goal for 2010: to build the 1000th house. Beautiful place and to suffer the marginalization of the past, today we realize that the marsh and the river's edge are more blessed to exploit tourism, a river-side avenue and urban improvement. On December 19th, with the construction of the 1000th house, UTPMP Paraguay are proud to be situated close to Chile and Argentina that have surpassed the barrier before, and it just drives to realize the goal of the following 1000 homes. And ends this part of my story in photos, which today UTPMP allows a thousand families to have the opportunity for a fresh start.

Los globos forman parte de los preparativos tradicionales para la inauguración de una casa en UTPMP. Es un momento único porque si bien el propietario -en este caso Doña Felicia- observa todo el proceso, ésta será la primera vez que pondrá sus pies en la casa terminada.
The balloons are part of the traditional preparations for the inauguration of a house in UTPMP. Is a unique moment because although the owner -in this case Mrs. Felicia- observes the whole process, this is the first time that will put her feets in the finished house.

Sergio, el hijo mayor de Felicia sonríe con los jóvenes voluntarios, y luego se toma unos minutos para descansar por el arduo trabajo. El lazo de amistad y camaradería que se forma entre los mismos, es un ejemplo de la hospitalidad y manera de ser del paraguayo. Sergio, the eldest son of Felicia smiles at the young volunteers, then he takes a few minutes to rest because of the hard work. The bond of friendship and camaraderie that forms between them, is an example of hospitality and way of being of Paraguay.

Las construcciones de UTPMP no sólo se realizan gracias a al combustible de las manos jóvenes de los voluntarios, sino que también gracias al sector privado. Para la campaña de "La casa 1000", EMG* decidió celebrar sus 15 años de trayectoria, construyendo 15 casas y entre ellas la número 1000, a través de donaciones, servicios y el combustible de sus jóvenes.
The UTPMP constructions are not only possible thanks to the fuel of young hands of volunteers, but also through the private sector. For the campaign of "The 1000th House", EMG* decided to celebrate its 15 year of history, building 15 houses including the number 1000, through grants, services and that fuel from their youth.

Doña Felicia visiblemente emocionada, porque ya falta poco para recomenzar esta etapa de su vida. Su casa anterior estaba montada prácticamente a la suerte, con maderas atadas o clavadas, cubierta con plástico o techos de zinc regalados. Desde ahora tendrá una pared fuerte que soporte el viento en días de tormenta, ya no sufrirá con los charcos y raudales que inundaban su piso ni las goteras que hacían lo suyo. Sí, es dura la vida en el Bañado, es dura la vida de la gente olvidada a veces, por el resto.
Mrs. Felicia visibly excited, because in a few moment she will restart this stage of her life. Her previous home was mounted almost to chance, tied or nailed to wood, covered with plastic or tin roofs gifted. Now she will have a strong wall that supports the wind on stormy days, and she will not suffer with the pools and rapids that flooded his floor and the leaks that made his own. Yes, life is tough in the Marsh, life is hard to the sometimes forgotten people, for the rest.

Una de las JC de esta construcción explica a Felicia sobre los valores a tener en cuenta de ahora en más, de esta oportunidad de comenzar este nuevo capítulo en su vida, y de que sus deseos de superación pueden ser cumplidos. El objetivo será ponerse metas y llegar a ellas.
One of the JC of this construction tells to Felicia about the values to be considered from now on, this opportunity to begin this new chapter in her life, and that their desire to excel can be met. The aim will be to set goals and reach them.

Joshua, el hijo menor de Felicia, bajo su tierna mirada encontraba la forma de hacer travesuras. En un momento jugaba con cualquier cosa que encontraba, como soportes, cinta métrica o trancas de ventana que desaparecían de un lugar y aparecían en otro. Nada extraño o nuevo a los ojos de un niño puede salvarse de sus inocentes manos. Joshua, the youngest son of Felicia, under his tender gaze found a way to make mischief. At a time when playing with anything that was, as brackets, measure tape or cross bars of a window that disappearing and appearing in another place. Nothing strange or new in the eyes of a child can be save of his innocent hands.

Niños vecinos, sobrinos y Joshua, encantados con las estrellitas jugaban dentro de la casa a modo de festejo, a modo de novedad porque aún no era Nochebuena, pero seguro, que para la familia de Felicia esa noche iba a ser también una noche buena.
Neighborhood kids, nephews and even Joshua, delighted playing with the tiny-stars in the house in a sort of celebration, as a novelty because it was not Christmas yet, but surely that Felicia's family that night would also be a good night.

Maika juega y enciende más estrellitas con los niños que disfrutaban por unos momentos de su brillo efímero, un brillo incomparable con el recuerdo que tendrán sobre este grupo.
Maika play and start more tiny-stars for the children who enjoyed for a few moments the fleeting of their brilliance, incomparable brilliance with memories they will have about this group.

Felicia me dice "lo voy a tener siempre de recuerdo", cuando hablaba acerca de la cinta tricolor que se usó para inaugurar su casa. Muchos voluntarios y constructores de UTPMP también adoptan la práctica de hacerse pulseras con las cintas tricolor de sus construcciones. Una especie de recuerdo de la primera casa, quizás la primera gran satisfacción en el gran deber de ayudar al prójimo.
Felicia tells me "I'll always have this as a remember" when talking about the threecolor ribbon that was used to open his house. Many volunteers and builders of UTPMP also adopt the practice of bracelets made with threecolor ribbons in their buildings. A kind of memory of the first house, perhaps the first great duty satisfaction of helping others.

La tradicional foto de todos los constructores haciendo la señal de la "casita" y Felicia, junto a sus dos familias: la de siempre y la nueva, conformada por estos jóvenes que convivieron y compartieron con ella en estas 48 horas. Éxitos para ella.

El bañado y contra todos los prejuicios que existen, ofrece en sus calles y con su gente nada más que hospitalidad y respeto a quien va de visita. Caminando esas calles desde la casa de Felicia hasta la Casa 1000, la gente te sonríe al verte con una cámara, te piden que tomes una foto y hacen preguntas. Yo siempre contesto que no vengo a robarles una imagen, sino que vengo a convertirlos en personajes de mis historias, como este muchacho y su hija.
The Marsh and against all the prejudices that exist, offers in its streets and its people nothing but hospitality and respect for who come to visits. Walking the streets of Felicia from home to the 1000th House, people will smile when see you with a camera, they ask you to take them a picture and they ask questions. I always answer that I come not to steal an image, but I come to turn them into characters of my stories, like this young man and his daughter.

Y ahí, en una esquina abierta del Bañado Sur se alzaba la Casa 1000, mientras los jóvenes de EMG* que ya terminaron prácticamente la construcción, ahora se disponían a pintarla de ROJO, BLANCO Y AZUL, los colores de nuestro principal símbolo patrio, en modo de festejo por la meta alcanzada.
And there, in one corner of Southern Marsh, there is stood the 1000th House, while the guys of EMG* already practically completed the building, are now preparing to paint it red, white and blue, colors of our main national symbol in celebration mode for the goal achieved.

Myriam es la propietaria de la Casa 1000 de UTPMP, y ahí vivirá con su linda familia, aquí sus hijos Abraham y Adán, con una tremenda pinta de inquietos y traviesos, sonríen desde la camioneta mientras su casa está a punto de terminarse y pintarse.
Myriam is the owner of the 1000th House of UTPMP and live there with his beautiful family, here her sons Abraham and Adam, with a tremendous look of restless and mischievous smile from the truck while their house is almost finished and painted.

El grupo de jóvenes constructores de EMG* que terminaron las labores en casa de Felicia, llegan a la casa de Myriam, dispuestos a ayudar al resto de los voluntarios.

Myriam (22 años), la futura dueña de la casa también se pone la camiseta de UTPMP, como se dice, y ayuda en la pintura de la misma. A veces nos sorprende encontrarnos con esta realidad, donde a su corta edad debe sacrificarse mucho más que cualquier mujer, por sus tres hijos, por la situación en que viven, por las escasas oportunidades que le toca.
Myriam (22 years), the future owner of the house also got what it takes in UTPMP, as they say, and help paint her new home. Sometimes we are surprised to find this reality, where at her young age, she should sacrifice more than any wife, because of her three children, the situation in which they live, by the limited opportunities to have it.

Todos iban turnándose para pintar, desde los voluntarios de EMG* hasta familiares, y Myriam misma como vimos hace un rato. En este caso también se sumó el papá de Myriam, que vive en Minas de Emboscada, y con él en un momento me puse a hablar sobre "La Serenata del Alba" y el "Guaicurú Ñemonde", festejos tradicionales de esa localidad. Además son dos POSTEOS que podrán encontrar en este blog, sobre la cultura Guaicurú. All were taking turns to painting, from the EMG*'s volunteers to family, and even Myriam as we saw earlier. In this case also joined Myriam's father, who lives in Minas de Emboscada, and with him in a moment I started talking about "La Serenata del Alba" (Serenade of the Dawn) and the "Guaicurú Ñemonde" traditional celebrations of the town. 17:50 - Poco a poco la Casa 1000 iba terminándose, adquiriendo esos colores que le darían un estilo especial. La esperanza descansaba en el rojo, la paz interior con cada voluntario en el blanco y en el azul la libertad para esta familia, donde se olvidaría de su prisión de 2mts x 2mts en la que anteriormente vivían casi en hacinamiento.
17:50 - Slowly the 1000th House would be completed, getting those colors that would give a special style. The hope lay in the red, the inner peace with each volunteer in the white, and in the blue the freedom for this family, where they will left behind their prison of 2m x 2m were they previously lived almost overcrowded.

18:00 - Los trabajos en el techo ya habían terminado, era hora de retocar las últimas manos de pintura en la casa. Felicidades!

Mijael conversaba con las chicas, minutos antes que se cierren las ventanas y se preparen los adornos para el interior de la casa. Ahora sólo ya faltaba pintar un poco de la entrada.
Michael talked with the girls just minutes before they close the windows and prepare the decorations inside the house. Now they just needed to paint a small part in the front.

Mientras el sol se acercaba al horizonte como un objeto sin frenos, la luna casi llena pero gigante se erguía en el otro extremo con la misma intensidad, ofreciendo un paisaje bello en medio de la situación caótica que a veces significa la vida en el Bañado (toma realizada con técnica de multiexposición). As the sun neared the horizon as an object without brakes, a giant full moon rise in the other end with the same intensity, offering a beautiful landscape in the midst of the chaos which sometimes means life in the Marsh (Picture Taken with multiple exposure technique).

18:26 - La Casa 1000 estaba lista para ser inaugurada! Felicidades chicos, se cumplió el objetivo, se alcanzó la meta. UTPMP logró poner su sello y firma en la historia, los brazos y manos que incansablemente permitieron llevar a cabo este sueño hoy lo ven como una realidad y tan sólo guardan energías para las siguientes mil casas.
18:26 - The 1000th House was ready to be opened! Congratulations guys, your met the goal, the goal was reached. Aprovechamos el momento de festejo con los chicos por haber terminado la casa, y no podíamos dejar pasar el regalo de la naturaleza que ese día nos ofrecía al sol y la luna como cortinas en cada extremo, donde estos jóvenes también regalaron dos soles y dos lunas de su vida, en la búsqueda de una sociedad mejor.
We take the time to celebrate with the boys for finishing the house, and we could not let the gift of nature that day gave us, the sun and moon as curtains at each end, where the young people also gave two suns and two moons of his life in search of a better society.

Subido al hombro de Peter -aquel que fue monitor al inicio de esta historia en la Parte 1, y hoy constructor-, puedo tener un panorama casi completo de este momento, donde luego los dos JCs de esta construcción (Ferjo, era uno de ellos) le dan el mensaje de apoyo a Myriam, agradecimiento y esperanzas renovadas. Y para darle el cierre como se merece a tan excelente objetivo, integrantes del grupo "Sonidos de la Tierra", al son de violines tocaban la música de Felicidades. Los chicos de esta agrupación, son un caso para admirar porque también pertenecen al Bañado y a otros lugares "olvidados", y gracias a este programa de integración social (Sonidos de la Tierra), estos niños tienen la oportunidad de aprender con la música y conseguir más puertas abiertas gracias a ello.
And to give the closing that deserves a great goal, the band "Sounds of Earth", with violins sound playing the music of Congratulations. The boys of this group, is a case to admire because they also belong to the Marsh and elsewhere "forgotten", and thanks to the social integration program (Sounds of Earth), these children have the opportunity to learn music and get more open doors because of it.

Thousand roofs for my country (Part 2: One day later, and one month later)

Dia 2 de la construcción en el Bañado Norte, y decidí no sólo retomar la historia donde la había dejado sino que agregar en este mismo POST, la evolución de la vida de nuestras ocho familias, un mes después. Un mes marcado por un día frío y un par de lluvias torrenciales, donde alguna de las familias quizás haya tenido el sueño tranquilo finalmente. Volviendo al fin de semana de construcción, quizás me perdí la noche en la Escuela, donde los voluntarios hacen un encuentro sano, marcado por la camaradería, las felicitaciones por el día uno, la alegría, los juegos, la humilde fiesta de disfraces y el correo de brujas (se trata que los voluntarios anoten todas las equivocaciones y frases ambigüas que se oyen durante el viernes y sábado para leerlas en la noche del sábado); pero no me perdí de las emociones del domingo. A un poco más de las 5 de la mañana Irma (Bárbara), fue trasladada a un hospital para dar a luz a su beba, una beba que sin dudas cumple la frase de que "viene con el pan bajo el brazo". Irma recibiría una doble bendición este día, porque cuando la den de alta, volvería a su nueva casa, a su nuevo techo, a una nueva vida, llena de esperanza.

Day 2 of construction in the Northern Marsh, and I decided to not only pick up the story where I left it, but to add in this post the evolution of life of our eight families, a month later. A month marked by a cold day and a couple of heavy rain, where some families may have had restful sleep finally. Returning to the weekend's construction, maybe I missed the night at the school, where volunteers make a beautiful and healthy meeting, marked by camaraderie, congratulations on day one, the joy, the games, the humble costume party and the witch-mail (it is where the volunteers write down all the mistakes and ambiguous phrases that are heard during the Friday and Saturday to read them on Saturday night), but I did not miss the excitement of Sunday. At a little after 5 am, Irma (Barbara) was taken to a hospital to give birth to her baby, a baby that will undoubtedly meet the phrase "comes with the bread under his arm". Irma receive a double blessing this day, because when discharged from hospital, she will return to her new home, her new roof, a new life, full of hope.

11:22 - En casa de Reina el panorama era más que alentador. Los seis paneles verticales ya estaban montados!.

Cristian alineaba la madera que formaría parte de la viga maestra del techo.

En casa de Francisca el trabajo tampoco se detenía. La mitad de los paneles ya estaban colocados.

Lu Halley también víctima de una astilla, con temple y sin dolor intenta extraerla de su brazo.

En casa de Francisca, Aurora realizaba las mediciones para confeccionar la viga maestra, que se realiza con sobrantes de madera. Al estilo aquella famosa frase de los nativos norteamericanos "Utiliza todo el búfalo", donde aprovechaban hasta el último centímetro del búfalo cazado, sin desperdiciar un hueso, piel, carne, etc, en UTPMP se utilizan todos los pedazos de madera para hacer tirantes, uniones, escalera, etc. La creatividad no tiene límites.
In the house of Francisca, Aurora performed the measurements to make the main beam, which is made with wood scraps. Just like that famous phrase of the Native Americans' "Use the whole buffalo", which they took advantage of every inch of the buffalo hunted without wasting a bone, skin, meat, etc. in UTPMP they used all the pieces of wood to make straps, joints, ladder, etc.. Creativity has no limits.

El yerno de Amelia fue también una mano más que salvadora, que se unió junto a nosotros durante la construcción.

La cuadrilla coloca los paneles laterales, con Bruno que vino a ayudar en nuestra construcción de modo que podamos hacer lo mismo en la suya. El sentido de ayuda y hospitalidad en UTPMP no es sólo con los propietarios de las casas, sino también con los demás voluntarios.
The crew put the side panels, with Bruno who came to help in our construction so that we can do the same in their. The sense of support and hospitality in UTPMP is not only with homeowners but with the other volunteers.

El lente oscuro de Ferjo -el JC- fue una de las bajas que tuvimos durante la construcción.
Ferjo's sunglasses -the JC- was one of the casualties we had during the construction.

La luna en su cuarto creciente vigila a lo lejos en su pedestal celeste, mientras Ferjo irrumpe la fragilidad del silencio con los secos golpes que fijarán la viga maestra de aquel techo, ese techo de entre tantos que fueron construidos y que desde hoy dirá NO al frío y la lluvia.
The crescent moon watch in the distance on his celestial pedestal, while Ferjo breaks the fragility of the silence with dry strokes fixing the main beam on the roof, that roof among the many that were built and today will say say NO to cold and rain.

Raudamente la tarde se perdía en el horizonte y se conjugaba en la noche. El trabajo incansable que había comenzado el día anterior aún no terminaba y alumbrados con un celular esta cuadrilla en conjunto con otras que ya habían terminado su labor, continuaban en casa de Amelia. Afternoon swiftly disappeared into the horizon and was combined into the night. The tireless work that had begun the previous day was not over and lighted with a cell phone this crew in conjunction with other that had already completed its work, continued at Amelia's home.

El esposo de Amelia, Don Arturo iluminó la nueva casa con un reflector que montó en un instante. Las vigas del techo ya estaban listas y la última parte consistía en la instalación de las láminas antisolares y las chapas de zinc.

19:53 - Otros voluntarios que ya inauguraron las casas donde trabajaron en estos días, venían a ayudar en las demás casas en que faltaban más manos para terminarlas. La casa de Amelia poco a poco iba tomando forma, y ya sólo quedaba techarla.

20:15 - Los trabajos se redoblaron en casa de Irma, que era la casa que estaba un poco más retrasada que el resto. La hora, el clima pesado del fin de semana, querían jugar en contra ante un grupo de jóvenes que a medida que pasaba el tiempo encontraban energía para seguir trabajando.

23:47 - El reencuentro. Frente al Polideportivo San Cristóbal, todos los jóvenes que hoy trabajaron en el Bañado Norte se reunían para dejar los materiales, compartir la experiencia y verse de nuevo todos juntos luego de tan agotadora jornada.
23:47 - The reunion. In front of Sports Center San Cristobal, all young people that today was working in the Northern Marsh leave the tools, gathered to share the experience and be together again after such a tiring day.

Los Recuerdos. Aquellos que quizás no tengan la oportunidad de construir nuevamente en un futuro cercano ya sea por viaje, por fin de su misión en el país o cualquier otra situación, se llevan de recuerdo no sólo la experiencia del fin de semana, la sonrisa de "su familia" beneficiada, los agradecimientos, los abrazos, las emociones compartidas, las remeras con firmas de sus nuevos amigos, sino también la eterna marca en su vida de haber hecho la diferencia.
The Remembrance. Those who may not have the opportunity to build again in the near future either trip, end of mission in the country or any other situation, will have to remember not only the experience of the weekend, the smile of "his family" helped, the thanks, the hugs, the shared emotions, the shirts with signatures of new friends, but also the eternal mark on his life for have made the difference.

16:50 - La casa de Reina parecía transformada. Un toque de pintura le daba una nueva cara, y ella cumplía con ese requisito que el JC le menciona cuando van a inaugurar su casa "Espero que este sea un nuevo comienzo para vos".

Reina estaba con su hijito y me contaba que echaron abajo la vieja casita que tenía a escasos 2 metros, frente a donde está ahora su nueva casa. Sin dudas es una forma de dejar atrás su vieja vida y recomenzar su historia. Felicidades por ella!

Golpeo la puerta y en un par de segundos escucho "Ya voy! ya voy!". Aparece la infaltable sonrisa de Don Luis quien se alegra de ver una cara recientemente conocida de nuevo por su terreno. Me comenta que está feliz en su casa -que ya la adornó con motivos navideños-, que la lluvia no le preocupó esta vez y que da gusto que se levanta por la mañana, abre la puerta y se siente no sólo renovado de espíritu, sino que en calidad de vida, desde lo alto de su puerta puede ver todo con otros ojos, con otra posición. I knock on the door and a couple of seconds I hear "I'm coming! I'm coming!". Appears the inevitable smile of Mr. Luis who is happy to see a new face recently known on his field. He tells me he is happy at home -which he already adorned with Christmas decorations-, the rain not worried him this time and he is glad to be up in the morning, open the door and feel not only renewed spirit, but also in quality of life, from the top of his door he can see everything with different eyes, with another position.

Luego, Don Luis me acompaña a casa de Irma, al lado, quien ya estaba más que instalada dentro, con su camita, ropero, la cunita para su bebé, y me recibió también con una gran sonrisa. Aquella mamá que hace un mes atrás cuando la fotografié por primera vez tenía una panza grande a punto de dar a luz, hoy, para mí y todos Uds. nos mostraba el fruto de su amor. Si algo no podía faltarle a esta historia -así como cientos que ocurren en UTPMP-, es que Irma decidió llamarle a su bebé Rossana, en honor a una de las chicas que trabajó en la construcción de su casa. Como había escrito antes, hay huellas que UTPMP deja marcadas en las familias y en sus voluntarios. Lo que más sintió Irma fue no poder despedirse de sus constructores, pues estaba en el hospital.
That mom that a month ago when I photographed for the first time had a large belly about to give birth, today, to me and you all showed us the fruit of her love. If something could not miss in this story -and hundreds that occur in UTPMP- is that Irma decided to call her baby Rossana, in honor of one of the girls who worked in the construction of her home. As I had written before, there are footprints that UTPMP marked on families and their volunteers. What else did Irma was unable to say goodbye to her builders, as she was in the hospital.

Aquí me tocó visitar de nuevo esta casita en la que aporté un pequeño grano de arena con mi ayuda. Amelia no estaba, pero sí su marido Don Arturo, quien me dijo que pase a ver la casita por dentro, y que esta vez se rió de la lluvia torrencial del día anterior. Aun conservan el cartelito de Bienvenida que cada cuadrilla de voluntarios hace para cada casa, antes de la inauguración. En él se plasman los nombres de quienes colaboraron, y los deseos para este nuevo comienzo. Don Arturo, a veces de pocas palabras pero también con una cara siempre sonriente, arregla uno de los adornos de la casa, que permanecían colgados en la pared.
They still keep the little sign of welcome that each crew of volunteers made for each house, before the inauguration. It reflected the names of those who collaborated, and wishes for this new beginning. Mr. Arturo, a man of few words sometimes, but with an ever smiling face, manages one of the ornaments of the house, which remained hanging on the wall.

17:13 - Doña Francisca me cuenta que en su casita nueva mudará a su hija, porque quiere que ella tenga ese futuro mejor que no le tocó a ella. Una decisión que emociona, donde una persona que si bien tiene poco, aún así decide darlo todo.

Victorina, junto a la bendición de la familia: sus hijos, todos sonrientes, alegres, felices, jugaban en la casa mientras el cielo comienza a ponerse gris en este domingo donde ya cayeron gotas de lluvia al medio día, o ven la tele. La vida de cada casa en el Bañado es igual a cualquier otra en un día domingo, la única diferencia es lo que rodea a esas cuatro paredes.
Victorina, with the blessing of her family: her children, all smiling, happy, playing at home as the sky begins to turn gray in this Sunday where raindrops fell at noon, or watch TV. El tiempo para conmigo fue un poco tirano pero no tanto al mismo tiempo. Odulia y su hermosa familia iban a salir así que me dio el tiempo justo para encontrarlos en la puerta. Aún no habían mudado todas sus cosas en la casa, pero sí ya disfrutaron un par de noches de la frescura de dormir con las ventanas abiertas y dejando al viento jugar por momentos en su interior.

Doña Josefina había estado muy contenta y agradecida con su destino, porque de alguna forma había conspirado para que pueda tener su casita. Ella vive ahí con su hija Griselda, que nació cuando ella tuvo 45 años, y padece síndrome de Down. Josefina me dijo "Y a esa edad me vino mi nena, y es una bendición que así lo decidió el Señor". En ese momento el nudo en mi garganta se incrementó al igual que unas lágrimas buscaban la manera de despegarse de mis ojos, no de pena, sino de admiración. Doña Josefina seguirá trabajando -a pesar de su edad- en una sociedad que no le ha dado oportunidades, seguirá juntando los elementos de reciclaje para venderlos, seguirá albergando esperanza en su corazón. Esta nueva etapa en su vida como muchas otras que tuvo, es tan simplemente un nuevo paso hacia un futuro mejor. Gracias UTPMP.
The sign on the house of Josefina, she said will remain there for long, because every time seh see it will remember his small group of builders and the great human heart that combines in UTPMP. Josefina will continue working -despite her age in a society that didn't give her opportunities-, will continue collecting recycling items for sale, still harboring hope in her heart. This new stage in her life as many others did, is just simply a further step towards a better future. Gracias UTPMP.

Y así, esperando un futuro mejor y una vida digna, las oportunidades que la sociedad por cosas del azar no presenta hoy serían posibles gracias a esta juventud que decide moverse motivados por la satisfacción de marcar la historia en el país, o la historia en la vida de estas personas. Como en el caso de M. Vega, quien en esa segunda visita que hice al Bañado se nos acercó a mí y a mi amiga que me acompañó, y nos comentó que había enviado su solicitud para conseguir la oportunidad de ser beneficiada gracias a UTPMP con una casa nueva. Ella, vive sola con sus 5 hijos, fue abandonada por su marido y en las tormentas que azotaron entre noviembre y diciembre, su casa había sufrido consecuencias insostenibles. M, al igual que muchas otras mujeres y familias paraguayas, merecen ese granito de esperanza.
And so, hoping for a better future and a dignified life, the opportunities that society because of chance not show up, today will be possible thanks to this youth who decide to move motivated by the satisfaction of marking the country's history, or history in lives of these people. As in the case of M. Vega, who at the second visit I made to Marsh she came up to me and my friend who accompanied me, and told us that she had sent his application to get the opportunity to benefit thanks to UTPMP with a new house. She lived alone with her five children, was abandoned by her husband and the storms that struck between November and December, his house had been unsustainable outcomes. M, like many other women and families in Paraguay, deserve that grain of hope.

Misión cumplida, rostros y corazones felices y contentos, casas construidas, metas alcanzadas. El combustible que mueve UTPMP del que hablé en mi post anterior, no se acaba, tan simplemente se multiplica, se renueva y se mantiene. Y así es como UTPMP llegó a la Casa 1000 en diciembre de 2010, donde más familias fueron beneficiadas y significa un hito que será superado en el futuro. Y editando un documental de una profesora de Villarrica oriunda de Paso Yobái -que se llama Pura Cuyer-, aprendí algo muy importante que siempre tengo en cuenta: "las decisiones por más pequeñas que sean, hacen que la vida de una persona mejore, y a través de la mejoría de la vida de varias personas, mejora una sociedad". Este grupo de jóvenes que crece y crece, decidió efectivizar las acciones por su propia cuenta, decidieron levantarse del letargo y donar un fin de semana o varios, para buscar una sociedad mejor. Hoy no sólo construyeron unas casas para varias familias, sino que de a poco, van construyendo un país mejor. Preguntáte si no es hora en que te conviertas también en combustible.

Mission accomplished, happy faces and hearts, homes built and goals achieved. The fuel that start UTPMP which I talked about in my previous post, not decrease, but just so simply multiply, renewed and maintained. And so it UTPMP came to the 1000th House in December 2010, where more families were served, and is a milestone will be surpassed in the future. And editing a documentary about a teacher of Villarrica, originally from Paso Yobai -called Pura Cuyer-, I learned something very important that I have always considered "every choice, however small, can impact a person's life for the better, and improving the lives of more people, society itself improves".
