A weekend on Iturbe, again

Como en un par de posteos anteriores volví a Iturbe (Caazapá: un paso por la Expo y por el Festival del Ykuá Bolaños y Semana Santa en Iturbe),a este lugar maravilloso, agradeciendo como siempre a Juan Carlos Portillo (@jc_portillo) y familia por brindarme nuevamente un fin de semana increíble y fantástico. Aprovechamos el "feriado largo" (12, 13, 14 y 15 de Agosto) y partimos el Viernes 12 rumbo a Cande'a Guasu (Iturbe, Guairá) a la casa de sus padres, donde tan bien se pasa y tan bien se come. La Fiesta Patronal de Iturbe, donde se conmemora el día de Santa Clara, patrona de la ciudad el mismo día que llegábamos, pero no hicimos el viaje hasta la ciudad porque llegamos tarde en la noche y porque a diferencia de otras veces donde agradecía a mi amigo John (@paraguajohn), esta vez mi sentimiento era distinto porque me quedé sin lentes para usar con mi cámara porque él estaba haciendo trabajos con ellos. Pero no se preocupen, seguiré relatándoles más sobre ese fin de semana, donde el domingo llegaron de visita más amigos del twitter, seducidos por todas las historias que cuenta jc_portillo sobre su casa paterna, y mis tweets sobre lo maravilloso del lugar: @zpeyote, @oponipo y @fanyboga. Así que me siento honrado de decir que encontrarán fotografías tomadas por ellos entre las mías, porque tenían lentes compatibles con mi cámara. Gracias por acompañarnos!

As in a couple of previous postings, I returned to Iturbe (Caazapá: a visit to the Expo and the Festival of Ykuá Bolaños and Easter in Iturbe), to this wonderful place, as always grateful to Juan Carlos Portillo (@ jc_portillo) and his family for giving me back an amazing and fantastic weekend. We take the "long holiday" (12, 13, 14 and 15 of August) and we head to on Friday, 12 toward Cande'a Guasu (Iturbe, Guaira) to his parents' house, where we passed well and we eat well. The Patronal Feast de Iturbe, which commemorates the day of St. Clara, patron saint of the city the same day we arrived, but we didn't made the trip to the city because we arrived late at night and because unlike other times where I thanked my Friend John ( @ paraguajohn), this time my feeling was different because I didn't have the lens to use with my camera because he was doing work with it. But do not worry, I'll keep you telling them more about that weekend, where on Sunday came to visit more friends from twitter, seduced by all the stories that jc_portillo tells about his father's house, and also my tweets about how wonderful the site is: @zpeyote, @oponipo and @fanyboga. Primero, pido disculpas por la calidad de esta primera serie de fotografías, ya que como mencioné estaba sin cámara así que las tomé con mi celular el Sábado cuando fuimos hasta la ciudad donde me paseé por la Plaza Vicente Ignacio Iturbe. Flores del único Lapacho Blanco florecido en la plaza permitían gozar de este paisaje de manto blanco en el pasto. La Ciudad seguía adornada con banderines por donde pasó la procesión.
First, I apologize for the quality of this first series of photos, because as was mentioned without a camera, so I tooked them with my cellphone on Saturday when we went to the city, where I went to the Plaza Vicente Ignacio Iturbe. Dos señores descansan en la Plaza Vicente Ignacio Iturbe, frente a la estatua del mismo prócer. Un cartel de madera como muchos que hay en la ciudad, frente a la vieja Estación de Tren de Iturbe, hoy en día restaurada y recuperada es ahora la Casa de la Cultura, donde funciona un Museo sobre Augusto Roa Bastos. En mi próximo viaje tendré estras mismas fotografías, las del museo y más de la ciudad, pero en mejor calidad.
Two men rest on the Plaza Vicente Ignacio Iturbe, in front of the statue of the same hero. A wooden sign as many in the city, in front of the old Railway Station Iturbe, now restored and recovered is now the Casa de la Cultura, which houses a museum on Augusto Roa Bastos. On my next trip I'll take this same photographs, the museum and the city, but in a better quality.

Imponente Tajy florecido en la casa de los padres de jc_portillo, tanto a la vista como en el reflejo de los anteojos de Lola. Había aprovechado que llevé mi tercera cámara que generalmente la utilizo para filmar. El día estaba hermoso y se prestaba para hacer fotografías inolvidables, de la naturaleza y singularidad de esta casa en Cande'a Guasu. En la segunda fotografía podemos ver una pequeña aguada dentro del predio, donde es posible pescar.
The day was beautiful and lends itself to take memorable photographs of the nature and uniqueness of this house in Cande'a Guasu. The second photograph shows a small wash inside the place, where you can fish.

El domingo iba cerrando sus persianas, yo había dormido todo el día (porque la noche anterior de Sábado estuvimos en la fiesta bailable con toda la ciudad), y @fanyboga y @oponipo habían descansado al aire libre sobre una manta, con la belleza del lugar y los apacibles sonidos de aves.
The sunday was closing his blinds I had slept all day (because the previous Saturday night I was at the dancing party with the whole city), @fanyboga and @oponipo had rested outdoors on a blanket, with the beauty of place and the peaceful sounds of birds.

18:33 - Llegamos a la Romería (Feria) que había en la ciudad de Iturbe para que los niños (a cargo de Lola) puedan jugar en el pequeño parque.

Estas ferias y parques de diversión itinerantes son comunes y materia corriente en el Interior del país, en las fiestas patronales. Prácticamente no descansan en todo el año.
These itinerant fairs and amusement parks are common and ordinary matter in the interior of the country in the festivities. Virtually, they no rest throughout the year.

Estos parques y ferias generalmente tienen juegos para atraer a los niños, sin olvidar aquellos juegos de azar y apuestas que están destinados a los más grandes.
These parks and fairs usually have games to attract children, including those for gambling and betting, that are for the olders.

Entre los juegos de azar está el de las tres barajas, donde la gente debe acertar cuál es la que tiene el 1 de espadas, y el "krupier" con agilidad y velocidad confunde a la clientela. Las apuestas van desde 20mil a 100mil guaraníes. Otro de los juegos es el de las bolitas que caen dentro del hueco, y la persona debe indicar si caerá cantidad par o impar.
Among the gambling is that of the three cards, where people must guess which one has the ace of spades, and the "krupier" confused with agility and speed to customers. 19:06 - Los niños disfrutaron los últimos minutos en el Tobogán Loco, y luego volvimos a Cande'a Guasu. La noche aún no se disponía a recibirnos del todo, y luego de la cena en la casa aún nos quedaba tiempo libre ya que el lunes era feriado. 19:06 - The kids enjoyed the last few minutes at the crazy slide, and then we returned to Cande'a Guasu. The night was not yet available to greet us at all, and after dinner at home we still had free time because that Monday was a holiday.

22:11 - Como ahora tenía lentes para mi cámara gracias a @zpeyote y @oponipo, aproveché para jugar un poco con lo que se llama exposición prolongada y balance de blancos. Esta fotografía nocturna, tomada a las 10 de la noche utilizando esas técnicas, permitía que la imponencia del Tajy se sienta en todo su esplendor. Alumbrado sólo por la luz de la casa, ya que el cielo de esa noche de luna llena estaba nublado.
22:11 - As I now had some lenses for my camera thanks to @oponipo and @zpeyote, I took the opportunity to play around with what is known as long exposure and white balance. This night photo, taken at 10 pm using these techniques allowed to shot the imposing Tajy sits in all its glory. Lit only by the light of the house, because the sky that night was cloudy full moon.

Para estas dos fotografías usamos más técnicas, manteniendo la exposición prolongada (45 a 66 segundos), el balance de blanco en colores cálidos y le agregamos un poco de light-painting, donde @zpeyote se encargó de escribir TAJY con su celular y @fanyboga de "pintar" el árbol y su copa con una linterna. Luego @zpeyote "rodeó" el automóvil de @fanyboga con la misma técnica del celular.
For these two pictures, we use more techniques, keeping the long-exposure (45 to 66 seconds), the white balance in warm colors and add a little ligh-painting, where @zpeyote was commissioned to write with his cell the word TAJY, and @fanyboga "paint" the tree and its crown with a flashlight. Then @zpeyote "surrounded" the car of @fanyboga the same cell technique.

23:42 - Estábamos muy animados con el light-painting, que hicimos unas últimas tomas. Aquí @zpeyote quedó quieto durante 30 segundos mientras @fanyboga recibía mis instrucciones y alumbraba con la linterna detrás de él, de manera a iluminar su contorno. Luego haría una iluminación rápida y parcial frente a él. El resto de la iluminación provenía de la casa y el cielo semi-nublado.
23:42 - We were very excited by the light-painting, so we made a few last shots. Here, @zpeyote was standing for 30 seconds while @fanyboga got my instructions shinning the flashlight behind it, so as to illuminate the surroundings. Then she make a quick and partial lighting in front of him. The rest of the illumination came from the house and the semi-cloudy sky.

Lunes, feriado, antes de irnos de Cande'a Guasu, los niños jugaban a la pelota en el césped y su manto rosado. Don Juan, papá de @jc_portillo los observaba, en un día en que el calor había vuelto y estaba especial para el tereré.
Monday, holiday, before we leaving Cande'a Guasu, the children where playing ball in the grass and a pink blanket. Don Juan, dad of @ jc_portillo watched on a day when the heat had returned and was special for tereré.

Nos vamos de Cande'a Guasu despidiéndonos de una familia hermosa que nos sirvió como si fuésemos reyes, dueños de una tierra tan bella como ellos. Nos despedimos del Tajy florido y de la casita de hornero que resguarda en sus ramas.
We leave Cande'a Guasu saying goodbye to a wonderful family who served us as if we were kings, owners of a land as beautiful as they are. We said goodbye to the flowery Tajy and the little baker-bird house that protects its branches.

17:14 - Habíamos hecho una parada a media mañana en Villarrica donde preparé un asado en casa de un amigo del twitter (de quien ya conocieron su trabajo en Fiebre Bicentenaria) @ChrisKaatz. Luego nos despedimos de Villarrica y el atardecer nos sorprendió con esta postal, en la ruta nueva que une Paraguari-Villarrica.
17:14 - We made ​​a stop in the mid-morning at Villarrica where I prepared a barbecue at a house of a friend from twitter (who you already knew his work in Bicentennial Fever) @ChrisKaatz. Then we bid farewell to Villarrica and the sunset surprised us with this postcard, in the new route linking Paraguari-Villarrica.

17:42 - El fin de semana largo aún nos parecía insuficiente para nuestras almas de aventureros, así que en Paraguarí nos desviamos al mirador del Cerro Perõ, a disfrutar de los últimos minutos del atardecer.
17:42 - The long weekend still seemed insufficient for our adventurous souls, so we turn in Paraguarí to the viewpoint of Cerro Perõ, to enjoy the last minutes of sunset.

Desde el mirador, podían observarse las luces de la ciudad de Paraguarí centelleando en lo bajo mientras el sol se despedía con sus últimos atisbos de claridad.
From the viewpoint could be seen the city lights twinkling in Paraguarí in low, while the sun was leaving with his last glimpses of clarity.

La imponente cruz de 5 metros de altura, erguida en la cima del Cerro Perõ descansa y aguarda a los feligreses que peregrinan hasta la cima a elevar sus oraciones. El único punto negativo de este hermoso lugar es el de la gente que utiliza la cima para realizar sus necesidades fisiológicas, mayormente hombres.
The towering cross of 5 meters high, erected on top of Cerro Perõ lies and awaits the parishioners to pilgrimage to the summit to raise their prayers. The only downside of this beautiful place is the people who use the top for their physiological needs, mostly men.

18:01 - @oponipo y @fanyboga disfrutan los últimos minutos en el mirador, donde después emprenderemos el retorno a Asunción.

Gracias una vez más por leer hasta aquí, por dejarse llevar y seducir por las imágenes de un lugar maravilloso como muchos que tenemos en Paraguay. No me canso de decir que aprovechen los fines de semana largos, porque todos son unas vacaciones impagables, donde uno no debe ahorrar todo el año para tomarselas. Considero que muchos de Ustedes tienen parientes o familiares en el Interior y sería un desaprovechamiento no visitarlos, para desconectarse de la ciudad y conectarse verdaderamente con su propia gente, fortalecer los lazos y volver renovado para enfrentar la semana. Recuerden, las semanas són sólo 5 días de trabajo en la mayoría de los casos, y 2 días donde pueden vacacionar internamente, en un país bello y hermoso lleno de atractivos y gente noble y bondadosa. Aprovechen.

Thanks again to you for reading this far, and for letting go yourself and be seduced by images of a wonderful place like many we have in Paraguay. I never tire of saying that take advantage of long weekends, because all of them are priceless holidays, where one should not save all year to take them. I believe that many of you have relatives or family in the Interior and would be a waste not to visit them, to disconnect from the city and truly connect with your own people, strengthening ties, and come back renovated to meet the week again. Remember, the weeks are just 5 working days in most cases, and 2 days where you can vacation inside the country, a beautiful country full of attractive with people and noble and kind. Take advantage of that.
