| On May 24 we celebrate the day of Mary Help of Christians, and the parish of the same name performed and celebrated with several masses in the day. One of the most assisted is at 7:00 pm. which are traditionally ex-students who were passing by the school. From the time of a great aunt, a nun from the Church, my mother was a student and my sister, our family has strong "Marian" roots as they say, and I remember as a kid attending the Celebration of 24 where after the mass, unfailingly ended at the table where he handed out the hot chocolate and cookies. I share in words just pieces of memories I have, and now I want to offer the same from a more mature, distinct, after several years of not attending the passage of my innocence. The Mass for the day of Mary Help of Christians, is for some synonymous with renewal of spirit, hope, return to the past, to remember... and I see it as the hot chocolate for the soul. |
The Church of Mary Help of Christians, minutes before Mass was already exceeded its capacity, that even some people hear the Mass outside the door.
The yard was decorated as is traditionally done with fabrics and balloons in the colors of Maria Help of Christians, which are pink and skyblue. The court in turn became the venue for families, students who had attended previous Mass the day.
In the same courtyard, there is a large stone statue or some kind of material as well, of Maria Help of Christians where lay flowers and offerings.
The Church also has a stand where they have prints, miniatures and paintings of Mary Help of Christians, for those parishioners who wish to have a picture in the house.
A large crowd of parishioners are in the Mass of 19:00 hours, because most are former students who come with a plea not only to celebrate the Mass of the College in which some attended 12 years of their lives, but that reunion with their classmates. Father Sergio Maciel officiating at the Mass since several years, for former students and always makes the list, naming the promotions, from late to early to know who is present. He reached the promotion 1945!
Of all the images of Jesus that I know of churches, this one from the church of Mary Help of Christians has always seemed the most expressive of all, and I finally had the opportunity to take the photo from an angle where I've never accessed.
People who no longer had access inside the Church, pray the "Our Father" from the side aisle.
After the Mass, the courtyard was alive with people going out to meet again and say hello.
Volunteers and parishioners help in preparing the table will hand out chocolates and sweet snacks.
The raw material for chocolate was donated by the students, it gets even more through other people, because amount of chocolate that is shared is far superior to what the former students brought.
As children, some women and current sudents are looking for that bit of "hot chocolate for the soul ", the ex-students do the same within the Church, sharing, updating themselves, taking pictures all together with the altar, which is also another way to bring warmth to the soul. Life takes us to scattered roads, but always try to approach us to our starting point.
| Thank you very much for joining me in this short post, while I am working on the Bicentennial photos, but would not let the opportunity to share this, especially for the students (boys and girls) of this school and the parish. Happy day of Mary Help of Christians, and my warmest regards and respect for the nuns of the Church. |
