Lights and Nativity Scenes 2011

Paraguay se viste con los colores de las fiestas de Navidad y Año nuevo, aunque debo limitar este post sólo a Asunción, debido a la falta de tiempo para mostrar más lugares bellos y pesebres del Interior. El Interior, ese lugar hermoso que tenemos donde las costumbres todavía se vislumbran, como la visita a las casas de vecinos para ver su pesebre, tomar clericó, compartir con los amigos, y darse un tiempo para la oración. El Interior mantiene la tradición y magia de estas fechas. En la Capital, disfrutamos también en los barrios de estas costumbres, además de los colores que nos brindan los arreglos navideños, las plazas y las luces. El aroma a flor de coco inunda los zaguanes, se escapa por las ventanas y a más de uno le recuerda cuando éramos chicos y disfrutábamos de eso. La vida nos va llevando por otros caminos, y vamos dejando las tradiciones atrás a veces por la poca voluntad y a veces sumándonos en el rebaño de los que dicen "Antes se hacía eso, ahora se perdió". Debo decir que hay cosas que no se pierden, siempre que un Paraguayo siga vivo en el mundo, porque se sienten nuestras costumbres, se sienten las enseñanzas que nos fueron legadas, así como el pedazo de tierra en que tenemos el privilegio de vivir. Feliz Navidad y Año nuevo para todos.

Paraguay is dressed in the colors of Christmas and New Year, although I must limit this post only to Asunción, due to lack of time to show more beautiful places and Nativity Scenes from inside the country. Inside the country, the beautiful place where the customs are still emerging, such as visits to the homes of neighbors to see their Nativity scenes, drink clericó, share with friends and take time for prayer. The interior continues the tradition and magic of these dates. In the capital, we also enjoyed in the neighborhoods, these customs, as well as the colors that bring us Christmas arrangements, squares and lights. The smell of coconut flower floods the hallways, escapes through the windows and reminds one more of when we were kids and we enjoyed it. Life leads us in other ways, and we are leaving behind traditions sometimes and sometimes the unwillingness taking us in the herd of those who say "A time ago this was done, now is lost." I must say that some things are not lost, if still there is a Paraguayan alive in the world, because those are our customs, we still feel the teachings that were passed, so the piece of land on which we are privileged to live. El Banco Sudameris, se encargó de adornar la Plaza de la Democracia con un hermoso arbolito de 5 metros de altura aproximadamente.
Sudameris Bank, was responsible for decorating the Plaza de la Democracia with a beautiful tree of 5 meters high.

Los adornos centrales del arbolito, tienen cierta reminiscencia al tejido más representativo de nuestra nación: el Ñandutí.
The central tree ornaments, have some reminiscence of the fabric most representative of our nation: the Ñandutí.

Otros adornos y luces que son comunes en nuestros hogares, también forman parte de los arreglos que se situaron en la Plaza de la Democracia, para mantener el espíritu navideño.
Other decorations and lights that are common in our homes, are also part of the arrangements that were placed in the Plaza de la Democracia, to keep the Christmas spirit.

Desde la misma plaza, puede verse la belleza de la cúpula del Panteón Nacional de los Héroes que ya fue totalmente restaurada para el 15 de Agosto, esta vez acompañada por la copa de un imponente árbol de navidad.
From the same square, you can see the beauty of the dome of the National Pantheon of Heroes that has already been fully restored to the August 15, this time accompanied by an impressive Christmas tree.

A diferencia de los arboles que adornaban la plaza del panteón en años anteriores, Coca-Cola se ocupó este año de ofrecer la belleza de este árbol de 21 metros, además de varios sectores de diversión para los niños que funcionaban desde la tarde hasta la noche.

Tanto en Asunción como en Ciudad del Este, la empresa colocó estos gigantescos árboles, inclusive en la Costanera "Bollik" de Encarnación aunque con un tamaño menor de 16 metros que no le quita protagonismo.

Cientos de vehículos detenían su marcha diaria para tomar fotos de este árbol, que de seguro se volverá tradicional en estas fechas. Yo me preparé para tomar las fotografías en lo profundo de la madrugada, así podría tener una imagen más limpia y despejada de gente.

Aunque también aproveché otro día para pasear en horas de la tarde y tener otra perspectiva. Una señora con sus hijos visitaba la plaza para que sus niños se tomen fotografías con el Papá Noel que se encontraba en una caseta.

Luego de mi viaje a la Fiesta del Tujú en Nueva Londres, visité el famoso Pesebre Hidráulico de la Familia Sabaté. Les dejo un mapa para que puedan llegar, porque hay tiempo de visitarlo aún.

Hace 51 años que Don Esteban Sabaté y Doña Hermelinda Insfrán construyen su pesebre hidráulico, en el Barrio Bella Vista de Luque, una trabajo asombroso, meticuloso y aferrado a las costumbres y tradición de la familia, donde cuentan con la ayuda de sus hijos.
51 years ago and Mr Esteban Sabaté and Mrs. Hermelinda built this hydraulic crib in the Barrio Bella Vista of Luque, an amazing job, meticulous and clung to the customs and traditions of the family, where they have the help of their children.

Un arpa y una guitarra giran en los extremos del pesebre, instrumentos representativos de la música paraguaya. El pesebre se caracteriza por todo el mecanismo que funciona de fondo y le da movimiento, donde el agua -símbolo de vida- cumple un papel importante en varios de los personajes de esta obra.
A harp and a guitar spin at the extremes of the crib, music instruments representing Paraguay. The crib is characterized by the whole mechanism that works in the background and gives movement, where water -symbol of life-, plays an important role in several of the characters in this amazing work.

Una pelotita de plástico gira al parecer suspendida en el aire, situada en el lugar correcto, demostrando también el trabajo no sólo de ingeniería detrás del pesebre, sino también creativo.
A plastic ball rotates apparently suspended in midair, located in the right place, also demonstrating the not only engineering but also creative work behind the crib.

Aparte del deleite visual de las figuras que se mueven en el pesebre, se respeta a aquellas que son tradicionales, que se mantienen estáticas pero con una gran carga simbólica de este arreglo que adorna cada hogar durante los últimos meses del año.

Y el deleite no es sólo visual, sino también permite disfrutar de los sonidos emanados de ciertos personajes, como en la parte superior del pesebre donde dos niños golpean con gracia las campanas en un incensante ritmo que gozan en silencio los visitantes del pesebre.

El Pesebre de la Familia Sabaté, recibe anualmente más de 1500 visitantes entre paraguayos y turistas, que quedan maravillados con esta increíble obra de arte, que conjuga tradición, costumbre y unidad en la familia.
The Nativity Scene of the Sabaté Family, receives every year more than 1500 visitors from Paraguay and tourists who are fascinated with this amazing work of art, which combines tradition, custom and unity in the family.

Siguiendo con las luces y siguiendo en Luque, la Confederación Sudamericana de Fútbol (CSF), también se acopla a los arreglos navideños ofreciendo un espectáculo de luces aprovechando la extensión de su terreno.

En el microcentro de Asunción, sobre Montevideo casi Herrera, se encuentra el Pesebre Caló, de Don Pedro. Este pesebre también tiene una historia de tradición que comenzó en 1922, cuando su padre Genaro Caló comenzó a construirla anualmente para recibir la visita de amigos y transeúntes.

Hasta la década entre el 50 y 60, este pesebre se encontraba en otra casa y en aquel entonces Don Pedro y sus ocho hermanos ayudaban en la construcción del mismo.

Más de 50 piezas componen este maravilloso pesebre que hoy en día se encuentra en el garage de la casa, y su construcción demanda al menos un mes anterior, donde Don Pedro y tres de sus hermanos menores desde hace años que siguen la tradicion de su padre con quienes construían esta belleza hasta 1990, año en que Don Genaro se enfermó y lo dejaron de hacer hasta 1994 cuando pasó a mejor vida.
Over 50 pieces make up this beautiful crib that is now in the garage of the house and its construction demand at least a month earlier, where Don Pedro and three younger siblings for years that follow the tradition of his father with those who built this beauty until 1990, when Don Genaro became ill and left to do until 1994 he passed away.

En el año 2000, Don Pedro continuó esta tradición familiar, agregándole también su toque personal y manteniendo la técnica y elección de piezas de la familia, donde cada imagen pasa por un proceso meticuloso de guardado hasta el año próximo.

La noche que tuve la agradable suerte de conocer este pesebre, un grupo de jóvenes cantaba villancicos para los presentes. Justamente al momento de la foto superior sonaba la música "Gloria a Dios en las alturas y en la tierra paz a los hombres".
The night I had the good fortune to meet this nice crib, a youth group sang carols for the audience. Just at the time of the photo above the music sounded "Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace among men."


Y no sólo siguiendo con la tradición familiar de armar el pesebre, la Familia Caló también regala a los transeúntes y visitantes frutas de mango rosado, así como abundante clericó. La frase "muy lindo tu pesebre, muy rico tu clericó" se vuelve frecuente en la vereda.
And not just following the family tradition of assembling the crib, Family Caló also gives visitors and passersby some pink mango fruits, and abundant clericó. The phrase "very cute your crib, very tasteful your clericó" becomes prevalent in the sidewalk.

Y por último, de mi breve recorrido capitalino, les dejo imágenes del pesebre que adorna el Palacio de López, donde pueden ver parte del hermoso trabajo de restauración a su color original que están realizando y por ahora se encuentra estancado en la culminación de la cúpula solamente, por falta de fondos.
And finally, ending my brief tour in the capital, I leave the pictures of the crib adorning the Palace of Lopez, where you can see part of the beautiful work of restoration to its original color and they are doing now is stalled in the completion of the dome only, for lack of funds.
