XII Latin American Festival of Rodeo and Folklore

Luego de haber dejado atrás las hermosas guaranias que siguieron cantándose después del trepidar de los tambores de Kamba Cua 2011 hasta tarde en la madrugada, me embarqué rumbo al sur con mis amigos Ariane, Flor y Omar. Como sabrán, a inicios de cada Enero desde hace doce años en la estancia Tacuaty ubicada en la ciudad de Santiago -departamento de Misiones-, se realiza el conocido "Festival Latinoamericano de la Doma y el Folklore". En la semana nos decidimos y nos fuimos ahí, utilizando la Ruta 1 que nos brindó hermosos paisajes, Es una verdadera fiesta que conjuga danza, costumbres y tradiciones para deleitar la vista, música de diversos puntos campestres del Mercosur para deleitar el oído, sin dejar de lado la gastronomía local que aporta su encanto, para deleitar al olfato y al gusto. La demostración de destreza, las usuales faenas que se realizan en el campo, bailes típicos de las regiones, música sertaneja, chamamé, polca, guaranias, asado, chorizo y otras cosas que cautivan a cualquier persona que en un efímero momento se permita intercambiarlos por el caos, la monotonía y el calor de la ciudad al que están acostumbrados. Incluso una lluvia torrencial se hizo presente, en la fiesta de esta tierra que está marcada por sus tradiciones. En este fotopost, tengo el honor de compartir imágenes de mi amigo Omar, quien luego de mucho tiempo, decidió realizar de nuevo algunos disparos con su cámara. Bien por él!

Having left behind the beautiful sung of the guaranias that followed after the trepidation of the Kamba Cua 2011 drums late into the night, I embarked southbound with my friends Ariane, Flor and Omar. As you know, at the beginning of every January since twelve years in Tacuaty, located in the city of Santiago -Department of Misiones- they made the famous "Latin American Festival of Rodeo and Folklore". In the week we decided and to went there, using the Route 1 that gave us beautiful landscapes It is a feast that combines dance, customs and traditions to please the eye, music from different parts of the Mercosur countryside to delight the ear, without forgetting the local cuisine provided by its charm, to delight the nose and taste. The demonstration of skill, the usual tasks that are performed in the field, region dances, country music, chamamé, polka guaranias, roast meat, sausage and other things that allow to anyone who's in a fleeting moment can exchange it for the chaos, the monotony and heat of the city to which they are accustomed. Even a big rain was present at the feast of this land that is marked by its traditions. In this fotopost, I have the honor of sharing images of my friend Omar, who after a long time, decided to hold back some shots with his camera. Good for him!

10:18 - Después de un placentero viaje por una ruta que alardeaba de su excelente estado, llegamos a San Ignacio Misiones y de ahí continuamos a la ciudad de Santiago hasta la Estancia Tacuaty, donde apreciamos estos hermosos especímenes equinos.

Mitad de mañana y se sentía un calor agobiante, pero el público supo acompañar con alegría y aplausos desde las graderías que estaban cubiertas con telas de media sombra.

La mayor parte de los integrantes del Grupo de Ballet Remembranzas bailan música Paraguaya en medio del ruedo central, brindando un espectáculo donde recorrieron todo el espacio y deleitaron a todas las miradas.

En Tacuaty también hay espacio para vendedores que ingresan con la esperanza de poder hacer una buena venta, sobre todo en el caso de este sombrerero, cuyo producto fue más que necesario por el sol que adquiría más fuerza.
In Tacuaty there is also room for vendors who enter with the hope of making a good sale, especially in the case of this hat seller, whose product was more than necessary as far the sun was getting more strength.

El Delegado del Jinete cubre los ojos del caballo que será domado, mientras éste está atado con piolas por el Palenquero, para mantenerlo tranquilo cerca del palenque.

La calma antes de la tormenta. El domador Brasilero ya está sobre el caballo y sólo aguarda el momento en que se lo suelta y se le da un chicotazo para que desate su bravura.
The calm before the storm. The Brazilian tamer is over the horse and only awaits the moment when it is released and given a whipping to unleash his bravery.

Quizás un poco alejado de la tradición porque la seguridad es primordial para tener un espectáculo sin hechos que lamentar, el domador brasilero quien anteriormente realizó la primera doma, refuerza su tobillera con una cinta de cuero.

El domador argentino ajusta sus espuelas, que le permitirán una vez en la doma enfurecer más al caballo con sus puntas metálicas. Estas puntas son mochas, pues apenas hincan al caballo sin penetrar su duro pelaje para no lastimarlo.

En las competencias de doma se toma un tiempo para la preparación del caballo, pero es rigurosa la atención así como el cuidado para no maltratar al caballo, porque el jinete queda descalificado de esa manera. Es un ritual entre hombre y animal, donde ambos lucharán entre sí, pero para el hombre en un marco de respeto hacia la criatura quien demuestra su poderío y bravura.
In tammin competitions they take a time to prepare the horse, but with rigorous attention and care to not harm the horse because the rider is disqualified in this way. It is a ritual between man and animal, where the two fight each other, but for the man in a framework of respect for the creature who demonstrates his power and bravery.

La contienda entre hombre y animal se conjuga frente a nuestros ojos, en esta fantástica toma de Omar, donde el valiente domador Argentino logró soportar los embates de la bestia, durante un buen tiempo.

Mientras Omar continuó fotografiando la Doma, yo me escapé antes hacia un espacio cubierto de árboles en Tacuaty, siguiendo la dirección de los pintorescos carteles que llevaban hasta los puestos de venta del Asado a la Estaca estilo Misionero, producto que caracteriza a esta región. Y con el propósito de brindar el placer visual que se merece, aprovecho y cambio el balance de blancos de mi cámara por aquellos colores más cálidos, que puedan llamar mejor la atención y despertar al paladar.
While Omar continued photographing the Rodeo, before I escaped into a wooded area in Tacuaty, following the direction of the colorful wood signs that led up to the stalls of Beef cooked on a spit at Misiones's style, a product that characterizes this region. In order to provide the visual pleasure that you deserve, I take advantage and change the white balance of my camera for warmer colors, so they can call your attention and awaken the palate.

Sin dudas, el Asado a la Estaca de este lugar es uno de los atractivos más apreciados por los visitantes, donde algunos incluso vienen a Tacuaty más en busca del asado, que en busca de doma y folklore. Un hombre busca entre las estacas una porción que sea de su agrado para comprarla y anotar su nombre junto al número identificatorio.
Undoubtedly, the Beef cooked on a Spit of this place is one of the most popular attractions for visitors, with some even come to Tacuaty more in search of this beef, and not to seeks for tame and folklore. A man searches among the sticks a portion of his choice to buy it and write his name with identification number.

Esta carne estuvo asándose al fuego por más de 5 horas, con una estaca atravesada y clavada en la tierra. Las porciones varían en sus precios dependiendo del peso de la carne, donde habían pedazos desde 45mil a 120mil Guaraníes.
This beef was roasting in the fire for more than 5 hours, with a stake pierced and nailed to the ground. The lots vary in price depending on the weight of the meat, which had pieces from 45mil to 120mil Guaranies.

Un grupo de señores observa las estacas con asado, mientras deciden cuál será la de su elección. Además de la carne de vaca, existían estacas con carne de oveja, también apreciada por los asiduos visitantes de Tacuaty.

Me retiro de la zona altamente nociva para mis vacíos bolsillos que es la de los asados, hasta llegar a un claro en la arboleda de Tacuaty y me deslumbra la cantidad de libélulas volando, insectos que prácticamente son los únicos que sobreviven desde la prehistoria y hoy están presentes en este relato así como en otros de este blog. Conjugados con los sonidos de ñakyrás (cigarras) en el fondo, sólo daban lugar a un sentimiento de paz. Mientras las nubes se ponían grises y se sentían vientos de cambio, anunciando de forma aún muy temprana la cercanía de la lluvia.

12:15 - La doma había entrado en pausa, mientras la gente se acercaba a las mesas bajo esta arboleda inmensa, y otros iban a hacer sus pedidos de estaca. Llegó la hora del almuerzo y un grupo Sertanejo brasilero ofrecía un buen y movido repertorio de músicas tradicionales.
12:15 - The Taming had gone on hiatus while the people came to the tables under the huge trees, and others went to make his orders of beef on stakes. It was time for lunch and a the Brazilian Sertanejo group provided a good and moved repertoire of traditional music.

Sigo recorriendo el lugar y me encuentro con otra de las peculiaridades de Misiones, que es su chorizo de producción casera, una delicia que conmueve a los ojos, olfato y gusto propiamente dichos.
I keep walking over the site and I find another of the peculiarities of Misiones, which is his home production sausage, a delicacy that touches your eyes, smell and taste itself.

Un señor corta unos pedazos de asado de la estaca que compró, para compartir con sus compañeros de mesa. Además del asado y el chorizo, se vendían otras comidas como la sopa paraguaya que se aprecia en este plato. La Sopa Paraguaya no es una "sopa líquida" de hecho, sino que es una especie de pastel de harina de maíz mezclada con queso, leche, cebolla y grasa de cerdo.
A man cut a few pieces of beef from the the stake, to share with his fellow diners. In addition to the roast and sausage, other foods where sold, as the Paraguayan soup that is appreciated in this dish. The Paraguayan Soup is not a "liquid soup" indeed, but it is a kind of cake of cornmeal mixed with cheese, milk, onion and pork fat.

Además de las delicidas que hasta ahora he compartido con Uds. no podía dejar de lado el "Batiburrillo", que es una comida tradicional de Misiones que inclusive tiene un Festival dedicado a esta gastronomía junto con el Chorizo Sanjuanino.

13:57 - Luego del excelente almuerzo en que conseguimos un suave, jugoso y sabroso asado a la estaca, disfrutamos de la sobremesa, postre, anécdotas, polca paraguaya de fondo e inclusive el reportaje de los amigos de Coronelbogado.NET para su canal de cable. De nuevo, la libélula se roba protagonismo en mi relato, donde este pequeñísimo especímen se posó durante más de 40 minutos en la bombilla del tereré, para que le fotografiemos con total tranquilidad.

El sol se escondió repentinamente, el cielo comenzó a ponerse más oscuro, y se sentía ese fuerte el aroma de lluvia en el ambiente. Comenzamos a retirarnos de nuestra mesa y no dejo escapar la oportunidad de hacer un "barrido" con la imagen de esta niña hamacándose en una rama colgante y flexible de los árboles.
The sun went down suddenly, the sky started getting darker, and felt that strong smell of rain on the environment. We began to withdraw from our table and I cannot left behind the chance to do a "panning" with a picture of this girl rocking in a flexible hanging branch of the tree.

Y justamente esas ramas flexibles también forman parte del paisaje de la arboleda de Tacuaty, donde se difuminan entre troncos y raíces. A pesar de las primeras gotas de agua, no dejamos de detenernos a admirar esta imagen, el regalo de una mano artística de la naturaleza, donde en su caos encuentra la forma de igual ofrecer orden. And precisely these flexible branches are also part of the landscape of the grove of Tacuaty, which blend into trunks and roots. 14:23 - La fiesta continuaba frente al escenario montado en la arboleda, y la gente no tenía la mínima voluntad de dejarse vencer por unas gotas de lluvia que aumentaban su fuerza. La gente siguió bailando, y los grupos siguieron tocando por unos minutos más.

Apenas 5 minutos más y cayó la gran lluvia, donde la gente corría a resguardarse bajo lo que pueda, donde el agua no paró de caer de forma estrepitosa, donde absolutamente todos los presentes terminamos empapados. Ni eso me detenía de seguir captando imágenes y buscando situaciones en medio de la lluvia.

Mucha gente se retiraba de Tacuaty al igual que nosotros, que no queríamos arriesgarnos a que el camino de tierra sea intransitable y no podamos salir. Pero todos nos retiramos con la verdadera sonrisa de haber participado en este evento de grandes tradiciones de faena de campo y gastronómicas.
Many people are withdrawing from Tacuaty like us who do not want to risk the dirt road is impassable and we can not leave. But all we left with the genuine smile of having participated in this event of great traditions and gastronomic field task.

Un grupo de guardias de la entrada sostenía el techo de la carpa que casi podía volar con el fuerte viento. Anteriormente dos de esos techos habían volado dejando sin resguardo de la lluvia a las personas que se encontraban debajo.
A group of guards at the gate holding the roof of the tent could almost fly with the strong wind. Previously two of these roofs had blown up leaving the rain shelter to people who were below.

15:40 - Luego de la lluvia que cayó con fuerza, nos encontrábamos en casa de Flor, en la ciudad de San Ignacio Guazu. Aproveché para buscar aquello que deja la lluvia luego de su paso, un manto de hojas empapadas y gotas esparcidas.

Y me despido con esta imagen de la hoja de parra, donde una gota de lluvia de otra hoja más alta, simboliza una lágrima. Quizás por tener que irnos de esta ciudad tan mágica y llena de fuerza.
